Slutty Vegan x Big Dave's Open New Vegan Spot at Ponce
Remember back in 2018 when a new Black-owned vegan restaurant opened in Atlanta and always had lines stretching down Ralph David Abernathy? Oh and the name definitely took some getting used to for some folks. If you guessed Slutty Vegan, you’re right.
If you’ve had the chance to enjoy one of Slutty Vegan’s delicious plant based meals then you’ll definitely want to check out owner Pinky Cole’s newest spot, Bar Vegan. Cole collaborated with the owner of another popular Black-owned restaurant, Big Dave’s Cheesesteaks. Known for it’s ooey-gooey cheesesteaks, egg rolls and Dave’s famous seasoning. So what did two poppin’ Black-owned restaurants do? They fused their individual specialties into one and created a vegan cheesesteak concept, Dinkies.
Pinky + Dave = Dinkies. The menu features plant based Impossible meat in their cheesesteaks, egg rolls and quesadillas, while offering sweet potato tots as a side. Bar Vegan really wants guests to have an experience with their interactive cocktails and they’re doing it in a creative way. Some drinks come served in an IV bag with a nod to being a “Grady Baby” and some with a fire extinguisher, ferris wheel and safe just to name a few.
I ordered the cheesesteak with regular tots and their house margarita. Since they are still fairly new, they passed out surveys and I rated the food and cocktail a five out of five. The cheesesteak was really tasty and flavorful and the tater tots had some type of seasoning on it that was just plain good. Our server and the overall staff were really attentive and kept checking on us which was nice.
They also had a live DJ for an r&b themed night which added to the already great experience. If you’ve been itching to go “out” (and don’t want to be in the club) for some good vibes, this is the spot. Good food, dope aesthetic, and you’ll support a Black-owned all while having a good time.
