People often think you have to hop on a plane and grab your passport to truly “get away” and see something new. But wherever you live, there’s a beautiful place to be explored that you’ve never been before. And after spending so much time at home over the last few months, now is the perfect time to get away. Take a break from the never ending news cycle and enjoy the beautiful places in and around your city to experience the getaway we’re all seriously in need of right now.

There are over 400 national park sites in the United States, which means your state is bound to have at least one worth exploring. In Georgia, there are 11 National Parks along with so many other trails, waterfalls and paths worth exploring in and around the city of Atlanta. The North Georgia mountains are filled with an abundance of places to see, but one spot that’s an absolute must-see, is the gorge at Tallulah Gorge State Park. It’s about an hour and a half drive from the city, and is completely worth it. Just look at this.

Breathtaking, right? If you didn’t already know this was in Georgia, you probably would’ve thought this was somewhere in another country. But it just goes to show that you don’t have to go far to see something beautiful. At Tallulah State Park there are a range of trails to choose from and different overlooks with views of the gorge. To get to the above photo, you have to go down a hefty amount of stairs and then walk across a bridge. While you’re on the bridge, look down and you’ll be blown away by the view. The hike back up the stairs is definitely a challenge, but it’s a great workout. So why not get a good workout in and be rewarded with an amazing view?

While you’re already up in the mountains, there’s another waterfall close by that’s also worth seeing. Minnehaha Falls is a gorgeous waterfall tucked behind trees on Lake Rabun. It’s a brief short hike which is a plus after hiking the gorge. And on your drive back home, pick up some fresh produce and homemade treats at Jaemor Farms, a farmer’s market close by. They have all of your favorite veggies and fruit, plus original spice mixtures, natural beauty products, and home decor among other things.

Unplugging from your phone and spending time outside in nature is a refreshing feeling and great for clearing your mind and recharging your mental health. So if you’re feeling bogged down and overwhelmed with life, hop in your car and take a mini road trip in your city or town.
